What is Coaching?

As your coach I support you as you move forward along your chosen path – step by step. Coaching is really all about action. And this is why it’s NOT the same as therapy or counseling (which is about mental health).  Sure, sometimes, we’ll talk about deep things that make you YOU, but getting a coach is all about moving forward, one step at a time, and taking action on your goals and dreams.

Goals and dreams look very different for different people.  One person might have a bad habit they want to finally get rid of, another person might want help launching a new career, or still another might be in  a difficult life transition and need help navigating.   This is what I love about coaching. It’s all about YOU and what you need to live your best life – your life, your goals and your plans!

Professionally trained coaches don’t give advice or tell you what’s best. They know, and they help you discover, that YOU already know what’s best because YOU are the expert about YOUR LIFE.   Sometimes this is easy to forget as many others in our lives think they know what’s best for us – with their best intentions of course.

As your coach, I encourage you to connect with your own wisdom and confidence, help you see what you are not seeing, ponder what needs pondering, get together what needs to be gotten together, practice what needs to be practiced and encourage you to take action one step after the next. Ultimately, I act as a structure keeping YOUR process of discovery, dreaming, planning and action going.   I help you discover your own accountability too, so you stay organized and do what you say you are going to do.  I might nudge or challenge you when needed if that’s O.K. with you, but the conversations and the pace of change are always YOURS to control.

I work in many topic areas including: career, relationships, health crises, life-stages, national & international moves, expat living, personal wellness, personal development, interpersonal communications, family communications/parenting, etc.

My Unique Approach

I believe you grow your courage, confidence and possibilities by taking one
step at a time along your chosen path.  It is in the doing of things that we grow, change and reach our goals – and our highest peaks.

I focus on courage because I believe it is the missing link for most of us when when it comes to moving forward.  You can be in touch with yourself and all your highest values, and even have a great plan.  You might even be totally ready for something to happen, but if you don’t have the courage to act, you just keep going around and around.

My coaching helps clients get more comfortable acting with a bit of fear on board.  The goal is not to become fearless.  The goal is to lower the fear level through awareness, planning and practice so you are able to act in order to get what you want and need.
